Portland Winter Light Festival 2023 entry “Beyond the Horizon”: mirrored acrylic, LED infinity mirror, with projected animation on tulle fabric.
What lies beyond the edge of understanding?
An event horizon is known to be a finite edge, one that even light cannot escape from. But what happens if we could see beyond? Is a black hole an end, a beginning, or perhaps a link to somewhere else? The multiverse theory reaches back to the ancient Greeks and is now pervasive across modern philosophy and popular culture alike. Day to day we are each the center of our own universe, but what does everyone else see? Be it cosmically or terrestrially, how does our experience change when we shift our perspective? The human condition is to ponder; to yearn, to dream, to set our gaze towards the horizon.
Design competition winner.
Infinity. Timeless and without boundary, the Infinity Lamp provides a beautiful new twist to the classic mathematical Möbius strip. With neither a beginning nor end, the form is derived from a single cross section rotating about a central axis, while simultaneously revolving around in a full circle. Bending, twisting, and rotating, the delicate wood elements offer the perfect opportunity to display the patented Pure Timber extreme wood forming technology in a distinctly iconic way. Day or night, the Infinity Lamp offers a unique experience from every angle in both form and shadow. The result is an elegant approach to a modern chandelier that will create a stunning central showpiece in any space.
Winning entry was used by Elements Manufacturing to stress test their latest Pure Timber Extreme Wood Bending™ equipment.
